ALICE SMITH
FOR LOVERS, DREAMERS AND ME 2006

Please, someone stop me. I just adore this album. When I first got it, I played it to death. Now, I just play it most of the time. I think I like almost every cut. I love her voice (rich and resonant), her range, and her delivery; everything she does is magical. I could listen to her all day and night. Oh wait, I have. She sings R&B, but she has her own sound and can do almost anything with her voice.
From the moment you hear the first piano key of her very first song, she sucks you in and does not release you until the end of her album. Although her first song is her best, don’t be mistaken, her other songs hold their ground. Even the lyrics keep their hold on you.
“Dream”, her first song is a great, Broadway funk type song with a chorus that begs you to love her. “Woodstock” is a fun, upbeat take on a really “f*d up dream” she’s had that requires her to take a trip to Woodstock to take it easy. “Gary Song” is a funky groove that slides to its ball-rolling chorus. “Fake Is The New Real” is a funky, bluesy groove that asks, “What‘s the deal?” “Desert Song” is a funky groove and “Secrets” is a soft, lush tune in which she gently croons her feelings. The album ends with the Caribbean-flavored “Love Endeavor.”
I believe Alice Smith when she says, “I need to be everything you see in your dreams.” I believe it every time I hear her sing. Trust me, if you listen to her, she’ll “be there to love you each and every night and all through the day”.
